Siguniang Mountain Dujiangyan Mountain Rail Vehicles

On November 24, 2022, China's first rack railway train – the Dujiangyan to Siguniang Mountain rack railway train – successfully rolled off the production line in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. This train was specifically designed for the Dujiangyan to Siguniang Mountain line (referred to as the "Du-Si Line"), which is also China's first rack railway. Its core design feature is a "wheel-rail + gear rack" dual-mode traction system, enabling it to operate safely on steep sections with gradients up to 48%. The train's body features a champagne gold color, inspired by the sunlight of Siguniang Mountain, minimizing the visual impact of the train on the natural environment and enhancing its integration with the surrounding landscape. This project won the 2024 iF Design Award, becoming a model for the integration of transportation and tourism development. Once operational, it will reduce travel time between the two locations from 5 hours to 2 hours, which is of great significance for the development of tourism and regional connectivity.
